Medicinal plants from our garden

A medicinal plant garden located behind our head office in Eckwälden, Germany forms the heart of our company. With an area of about 4.5 hectares, we grow around 150 different medicinal plants here using biodynamic methods. We cultivate our own seeds and tend to the seedlings that grow from them.

The Medicinal Plant Garden

Sustainable partnerships all around the world

In so far as possible, we obtain all of our raw materials from biodynamic or controlled organic cultivation. We have solid partnerships with many suppliers, including a shea butter project in Burkina Faso, castor oil producers in India and rose gardens in Turkey and Afghanistan, where we are working with the World Hunger Organisation to offer around 700 farmers who now use organic methods an alternative to opium cultivation.

Our cultivation Projects

Sustainable harvesting in the wild

Some plants flourish better and develop their constituents more successfully in their natural habitat than in a garden. Eyebright is one such plant.

We therefore commission a wild collector to harvest this plant for us at an altitude of 1,200 metres in the southern Vosges Mountains – with a permit from the appropriate environmental authorities of course. This process is conducted with extreme care: we never harvest an entire meadow and we regularly pick the plants from different places. This maintains a natural stock while also giving us enough eyebright to make Dr. Hauschka Eye Revive, Eyeliner and Mascara as well as our WALA Euphrasia Augentropfen (eye drops).
