A Company Dedicated to Dr. Hauschka’s Mission
In a time when it is all too common for companies to be bought and sold and the founder’s principled mission lost to fulfilling the expectations of investors, Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, Inc. is uniquely structured to make decisions that are in line with the original mission Dr. Rudolf Hauschka set for his company in 1935 “to support the healing of humankind and the planet.”
Modeled after the foundation established by WALA Heilmittel, the manufacturer of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products, our company is a for-profit business held inside a nonprofit corporation with no beneficiaries. What this means is that the company can’t be bought or sold by individuals or corporations.
As reported in Fast Company (12/08), Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, Inc. “looks like a nonprofit but isn’t one. It makes money, and it pays taxes. It is governed by a board . . . [whose] charge is to see that the company complies with Hauschka’s long-standing mission ‘to heal.’ The articles of incorporation prohibit board members from receiving any financial gain for their role, in salary or dividends. They also prohibit the sale of Hauschka’s distribution rights. Without owners to collect dividends, all net profits are reinvested in operations, sustaining development.”
We are proud and appreciative of the freedom and responsibility this corporate structure affords. From the boxes we use to ship orders to the depth of information we share on this website to the product guarantee we offer our customers, our aim is to make the principled decision, not to chase short-term, unsustainable goals.
